Very random thought.

When I was in 7th grade I won best costume at our Halloween dance. I got to pick from 2 albums - Motley Crue's Shout at the Devil or Night Ranger - the one with Sister Christian. I chose Motley Crue. It was the start of my love of hard rock, and shaped who I hung around with. I often wonder if choosing the Night Ranger album would've altered the course of my life. I know this is a weird thought, but that album really influenced me.

 

To this day, I wonder how far I'd have gone in the county spelling bee if not for incompetent judges. I won the school level easily. At county, they asked me to repeat the word to ensure that I heard it correctly. I can't recall the word, but I repeated it with an -ly suffix that apparently was not stated. I spelled the word accordingly with the -ly. Instead of correcting me, they simply said "wrong". When the next kid spelled it correctly, I figured out what had happened. I tried meekly raising my hand but was ignored. Didn't want to seem unprofessional. This was back in middle school years ago.
