Competitive boomeranger Logan Broadbent, a former world trick shot champion and American Ninja Warrior star, says weather conditions are a critical factor in his sport.
“What we hate more than anything is when it gets super, super windy," he says. "We don't mind if it's raining. There can be lightning, there can be hail—we don't care. But when it gets really windy, that makes things really tough.”
Which is why Broadbent travels to competitions with more than 100 different boomerangs—many of which he makes himself.
“When most people think of a boomerang, they think of a two-winged, almost V-shaped type of boomerang, something a little bit more traditional,” he says.
“I have three-bladed boomerangs, two-bladed boomerangs, even four-wing boomerangs, depending on the event. They’re all made on different types of materials: carbon fiber, fiberglass, phenolic materials, even woods and plastic. So I’m pretty much ready for any condition at any time.”
