Johammer J1.200

The Austrian-designed Johammer J1.200 cruiser packs a 12.7kWh battery, delivering a world-first e-motorcyle range of 200km. The integrated 11-kilowatt rear-wheel motor provides 14hp and a top speed of 120kph. For the minimalists, the J1.200's dash readout is integrated into the rear-view mirrors – they contain hi-res 2.4-inch colour screens displaying speed, revs and warnings. €25,000

Motoped Survival

With its 11.4-litre fuel capacity and mounting points for anything from a crossbow to a climbing rope, this Mad Max-worthy ride will be your best friend in the wasteland. A 49cc engine gives the Survival a range of over 600km at 40kph. Once your post-apocalyptic petrol supplies are exhausted, a patented pedal-drive system allows human power to take over. $2,499

MC2 Bike

Offering seven configurations -- from cruiser to penny-farthing -- the transforming MC2 bike should serve for anything from the weekday commute to a Victorian-style jaunt. Conversion is made simple thanks to a chain-free system, whereby the pedal crank joins directly to a planetary gear on the wheel hub. £tbc

Johanson3 X-plorer

For most electric urban transport, a 40kph top speed is perfectly respectable. The X-plorer trike, however, hits nearly double that with its three engines - one per wheel - producing a remarkably rapid 70kph. And it can haul cargo, with a 250kg payload leaving plenty of capacity for boxes, shopping bags or children on the school run. $3,900

BPG Werks DTV Shredder

It may look like the Segway's big brother, but this is not for trundling gently around the Google campus. The DTV (Dual Tracked Vehicle) Shredder is a hybrid of tank, skateboard and motocross bike. Two moulded caterpillar tracks -- powered by a four-stroke 196cc engine -- chew through mud, powder-snow and ten-inch-deep water. And if this still isn't extreme enough for you, a 90kph version is currently being developed. €5,500
