Videogame companies who attend the Tokyo Game Show come and go, but the fans are there forever. Even as publishers neglect their older gaming properties, characters from the past live on in the diverse crowd of cosplayers who show up every year at the Makuhari Messe convention center.

And even though Nintendo doesn't attend Tokyo Game Show, its fans do, as evidenced by the mountain of guests dressed as characters from its popular Splatoon Wii U game.

Above is a collection of WIRED's favorite cosplayers as seen this past weekend. We tip our hat to all of them for braving the crowds, donning their incredibly elaborate outfits, and posing in the sun for hours on end.
