’80s babies, rejoice: Rare Replay, a massive bundle of 30 Rareware games from Rareware's catalogue, drops today. It's got Battletoads, Jet Force Gemini, Conker's Bad Fur Day, and many other incredible games for a bargain-bin price per title (really everything but Goldeneye 007 and Donkey Kong Country).
But that's not the only Rare stuff hitting shelves.
Rareware and Microsoft Studios have partnered with iam8bit to press three of Rareware's best soundtracks to vinyl. Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark, two N64 classics, will have their soundtracks pressed for the first time, in gorgeous color vinyl double-LP sets with custom art. Battletoads gets an alternate edition after this year's San Diego Comic Con got an exclusive gatefold variant. This release has another custom gatefold designed by Nick Gazin, best known for his impeccable work on both now-iconic Run The Jewels album covers.
All of these records are limited to 3,000 copies, and will be up for pre-order at 10AM PST today. iam8bit also commissioned a special hand-pulled screen print commemorating 30 years of Rareware by DKNG that'll be available as well. If Mondo's recent vinyl soundtrack release for The Last Of Us is any indication, these will sell out in a flash as the video game and vinyl collector markets converge. After wearing out the soundtrack CD for Banjo-Kazooie that came with a Nintendo Power renewal nearly 15 years ago, we're thrilled to see these, but fair warning: if anyone ever gets around to putting out the Jet Force Gemini soundtrack on split black-and-blue vinyl, look out for elbows like it's midnight on Black Friday.
