Volkswagen isn't mincing words about the Beetle Dune concept. If this high-riding Bug gets a positive reception at the Detroit Auto Show, they'll build it. Let's make it happen.
It wouldn't take much to bring the Dune to production. It's not another pie-in-the-sky concept car. It's based off the New Beetle and its R-Line engine and trim package, complete with a 210-horsepower, turbocharged inline four-cylinder. The only differences are the height and width, with a track that's grown by 2.2 inches overall and a stance that sits two inches higher from the ground.
Aside from the additional body cladding, slots for skies, and raised suspension, it's the same hotted up Beetle we know, with some new trimmings on the inside, including a 7.7-inch touchscreen that displays the car's pitch and roll, along with weather, point-of-interest, and a reworked navigation system.
Put it all together and you've got a soft-roader channeling the awesome dune buggies of the '70s. Now if they could pilfer the parts bin from their siblings at Audi and make it all-wheel-drive...
