Publisher Electronic Arts said this week that SimCity is coming to Mac OS X on June 11.
Players who have already purchased the Windows version of the game will be given free access to the Mac version when it launches. Likewise, first-time buyers of the Mac version will get a free Windows copy as well.
Cross-platform multiplayer will be supported, according to SimCity developer Maxis.
The game will also support cross-platform saves and cloud syncing, meaning that if you make changes to your city while on the road with your MacBook, you'll be able to pick up where you left off when you get home and play the game on a Windows PC.
SimCity's always-on digital-rights-management scheme has been a disaster for EA since the game's March 5 launch on Windows. So many players were unable to access the game that EA temporarily halted its marketing campaign for the game and began giving free copies of other titles to disgruntled gamers in an attempt at damage control.
June 11, which is also the first day of the E3 Expo, will be EA's chance to prove that it can handle another platform launch without the same issues.
