Happy 35th Birthday, Star Wars!

1977 was a big year for geeks as Star Wars debuted in theaters. The world of science fiction was never the same after that. GeekMom Chaos Mandy was also born that year, so Star Wars has been there for her for the past 35 years.

1977 was a big year for geeks as Star Wars debuted in theaters. The world of science fiction was never the same after that.

1977 was also a big year for me since it was the year I was born. Even though I was only a few months old when Star Wars was released 35 years ago, it has been a constant in my life.

I'm not sure when I first saw Star Wars, but I think I was fairly young. My dad is a geek and he loved all of the original trilogy. One of my earliest memories was going to see Return of the Jedi in the theater with my dad and my cousin. I was six and I was so excited that I was big enough to see the movie. I took my job of helping decide if it was too scary for my younger sister very seriously.

Star Wars helped me make friends in college when I discovered the girl in my German class was a fan. We became very good friends and would have Star Wars marathons on many Saturday afternoons. We were both so excited to see the original trilogy in theaters and were equally excited to see the new prequels.

While the prequels weren't in the same league as the original trilogy, I still made time to see The Phantom Menace when I was released in 3D earlier this year. Because Star Wars is Star Wars and should be watched in the big screen whenever possible. I look forward to the day when I will be able to introduce my daughter to the wonders of Star Wars.

Happy Birthday Star Wars, it's been a great 35 years!
