Electronic Arts estimates that it has sold five million copies of first-person shooter Battlefield 3 since its release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 last week. This would make Battlefield 3 the fastest-selling game in EA's history.

In response to frequent customer complaints about server downtime over the past week, EA said it had fixed the majority of its issues.

"While some players experienced intermittent disruption of online services due to high volume, internal estimates show that servers and service uptime stabilized to roughly 98.9% throughout the weekend, ensuring that players were connected and enjoying the game," the company said in a statement on Monday.

In case you're keeping score, Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops moved 5.6 million copies during its first day in stores last fall. Modern Warfare 3, the next entry in the rival series, will be out next week.
