Steve Jobs is alive and well — we mean that idiomatically, not to dispel any rumors — and sitting at President Obama's left hand in this official picture of a dinner the Chief Executive had with a passel of high-tech luminaries Thursday.
That's Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg at Obama's right hand. You might not have recognized the sharp young man in a crisply-pressed shirt with a collar — suit jacket draped on his chair — instead of his trademark tee and hoodie.
There's outgoing Google CEO Eric Schmidt off sharing a head end, about as far away from the president as one could be at this table. Hmmmm ... over in the right-hand version of the Schmidt chair is Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz.
Directly across from Obama are host John Doerr, the legendary venture capitalist, and Oracle honcho Larry Ellison.
The "complete" list of dignitaries and an annotated version of the photo are over at Search Engine Land.
Not to focus too much on Jobs, but a sighting is pretty rare anyway even when the mercurial Apple chieftain isn't out on medical leave. There as been a report that he's been seen at the Cupertino campus, and another that he's been seen at a cancer treatment center.
The meal was held at what Reuters described as "a venture capitalist's sprawling estate outside San Francisco."
"The president specifically discussed his proposals to invest in research and development and expand incentives for companies to grow and hire, along with his goal of doubling exports over five years to support millions of American jobs," White House press secretary Jay Carney said after the meeting.
