Pop quiz: What's the difference between a concept and a prototype? Answer: Not that much -- neither of them can be bought from a store. But at least the Tatung VoIP phone has made the jump from CAD rendering to actual hold-in-your-hand physicality.

That the Tatung is causing such a buzz in Blogtown is indicative of the sorry state of VoIP handset design. I actually refuse to use any of the clunky plastic turds available, preferring to shout into the built-in mic on my MacBook, as if shouting into the ear trumpet of an old and deaf great aunt.

The award-winning handset will feature a touchpad for dialing, and both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for connectivity. Other than that, there's not much left to do but mock the product description at Nova Design:

TATUNG VOIP Phone goes deeper to the embedded psychological desire of phone uses. That is to connect.

Too easy!
