Truphone, the British mobile VoIP provider, has won a court injunction against T-Mobile, forcing the cellphone company to connect its calls. Truphone, who we spoke to at 3GSM earlier this year, routes calls over WiFi and 3G where available, and costs anything from free to three cents a minute.
The company had accused T-Mobile of abusing their market position and engaging in anti-competitive practices by not connecting incoming calls to the range of numbers assigned to Truphone users. T-Mobile admitted that they were blocking the connections, but claimed it was due to a commercial dispute over the contract.
Deputy High Court judge Robin Knowles QC granted a temporary injunction, so until the two companies sort out their differences, T-Mobile has to play ball.
