A Beautiful Mind: A Biography of John Forbes Nash Jr. by Sylvia Nasar "John Nash was a top mathematical talent. But there's a fine line between his seeing things that other people don't see and seeing things that aren't there. Nash slipped into schizophrenia and began writing to the UN about Martian invasions. This biography reads like a novel, with a semihappy ending - he lost 30 years of his life and his son was diagnosed with the same illness, but he came out of his state in time to win the Nobel Prize in economic sciences in 1994."

The Journey Is the Destination: The Journals of Dan Eldon edited by Kathy Eldon "At the age of 22, Reuters photojournalist Dan Eldon traveled to Somalia to report on the civil war. While there, he encountered a government protest and was stoned to death. This book, edited by Eldon's mother, comes from the 17 personal journals he left behind, which included photos, sketches, collages, and descriptions of his adventures. My favorite passage is the handwritten mission statement in which he vows to record what he sees with the eyes of a child. When I need to be inspired, I pick up the book and read a few pages."
